Happy Memorial Day!

In honor of the day we did a youtube search for "memorial day chicago" and this is what we got:

To bad neither our Basketball or Hockey teams are here to honor the troops, but thankfully youtube helps us do that.

Can't think of a better way to honor the troops then listening to the best national anthem singer in the biz...Jim Cornelison!

There seems to be some confusion. Memorial Day is not a day to "honor the troops." It's a day to memorialize the fallen, to visit and decorate their graves. This is not something that's usually preceded by the word happy.

The originator of Memorial Day, Gen. John Logan, is commemorated by a Saint-Gaudens statue in the South Loop, at 9th & Michigan. In earlier decades, before it was merely an excuse for mattress sales and meat-grilling, Chicago's Memorial Day ceremonies were focused there.
