Which Sloop Civic Project Will Have the Biggest Impact on the Neighborhood?

If you're a regular on the site, you know we often do polls on our right navigation bar.  Sometimes they're insignificant and sometimes they're a little more serious.

Anyway, just wanted to call your attention to a poll we just launched asking "Which Impending Sloop Civic Project Will have the Biggest Impact on the Neighborhood?"

For some background here are links to each project:

Did we miss anything else substantial?

Some pretty big projects going on if you ask us - never a dull moment in the Sloop!

Poll: Readers Optimistic for Strong Retail Scene in 2013

We tend to agree!
We will revisit at the end of the year and see where we end up.

As an FYI - we're in the 15+ camp!

Happy Thanksgiving from Your Friends at Sloopin!

Whether you're staying in the Sloop or going somewhere else, we wish you a happy Thanksgiving!  Most of all, we wanted to say that we're thankful for all of our great readers and contributors.  Without you, we wouldn't be...so Thanks!

And just for good measure we thought we would say thanks by posting an amazing viral video to remind everyone about how great the internet can be (and if you're not patient enough to make it through the whole song, maybe just fast forward to her rap at 2:29):

Poll: Lollapalooza a Positive for the Sloop

We got to go to Lolla again this year and here was our favorite band:

Finally, we stumbled upon this time lapse video from what appears to be Museum Park West on Roosevelt. It's a video from the Lollapalooza 2011 on Sunday, which had massive storms as well:

Or if you want to see the massive storm roll through from this year click here (however the video is not from the Sloop so we didn't show it).

Readers are Right: City Tavern First to Open

With City Tavern opening up last night, it looks like the readers were right.  After a couple of delays we were unsure if one of the other new South Michigan establishments would open up first.  A reader sent us this picture:

While CT might have beat the others to the punch, it appears that they are pretty close to opening as well.

Square One has a countdown clock on their website that says they're going to open on July 5th (even though we heard they were shooting for July 1st).  Alain's has taken the paper down from their windows to reveal a rustic decor that would suggest that they're damn near close to opening.  And we recently saw people putting things in Karamela...which would suggest they're getting close as well.

Soon enough we will have some new things to try out!
