Shots Around the Sloop: The Colorful Houses on State St.

These, the historic district on 18th street, and the history of the old levee district were basic reasons I wanted to live in the Sloop or near south side starting back in the mid-90s. IMHO, from a "long-term" perspective, these are among the best homes in Chicago to keep in the family for 100 or 200 years. After that, my money would be on the townhomes lining the north side of the river just west of LSD.

BTW, thanks Sloopy for this great site and the time you put into it. You are doing a bang-up job!

If you own one of these, my following comment (opinion) is not directed at you personally.

The pictured homes are already starting to get run down. The quality of these modern stick constructions is not great. I doubt they were built to last 50-80 years let alone 200.
