A'Cappela Bistro Slowly Trying to Open?

The A'Cappela Bistro (on the Southeast corner of 13th and Michigan) looks like it could open any second, but for whatever reason it hasn't. In January of this past year, we received emails from some readers saying they've seen some movement inside the mysterious bistro (post here).

Over two months have passed and from what we could tell, not much has changed. So we decided to do some Internet searching to see what was going on and it appears they just got another license for a 'Retail Food Establishment' on March 9th according to everyblock. So it looks like their has been some progress.

Another sign of progress is their website. When we checked it in January, there wasn't much to it. But today it looks slightly better. It's not a fancy, sexy website, but it does look better then we remember.

Anyway, just thought we would pass along some info on this bistro. We know many of you are watching it carefully and so are we.

Can't wait for this place to open, great to see another restaurant open up within walking distance.

Do you think those bars on the windows will come down?

Rather than giving us yet another blog entry about this troubled spot - please inform all sloop residents about the attack of a young woman in the south loop by a group of teens near Cermak on Sunday night. This story is breaking on chicagotribune.com right now and is likely the start of the violent "mugging season" in Chicago. Please note: the Chicago PD is urging everyone in the South Loop to be suspicious of groups of young teens loitering/congregating in the hood and ask that said activity be reported immediately.

Do you have a citation for that?

Yes. Read the article in the Chicago Tribune.

Also, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Really FGFM? A woman is attacked/mugged in the area and you, once again, are calling out a concerned citizen rather than the perpetrators. Give me a break. You must not have a wife, a mother, a sister, or any children.

Anon, create a user name. Especially if you are going to hijack a post about a restaurant.

In case you are new, FGFM cares not for correlations, statistics, and facts. In this case, the relation between congregating/loitering teens and crime. He/she cares only for those disenfranchised (sarcasm) by this evidence. Typical.

I'm still hoping that we'll hear the real story on this fiasco at some point. How can a place get as far as having the tables set and then not open for years?

Read the article in the Chicago Tribune.

Well, the article I read didn't say anything about young teens or reporting loiterers; it said to be suspicious of people loitering.

I don't piss in my pants just because someone got mugged.

Yeah, that's why I asked for a citation.

Well, the article I read didn't say what he claimed and that's a fact. The article did not mention teens, young or otherwise, nor did it say that people should report loiterers. I asked for a citation and you attempted to pile on after the racist anon launched yet another emotional personal attack. Funny how that works!

FGFM: How in the world could the original anon's post be construed as racist? I thank him/her for bringing this to my attention. Otherwise, I may have not known that this attack happened less than 3 blocks from my apartment on Clark.

I almost think you, FGFM, try to make everything about race.

If this thread makes even one person more aware of her/his surroundings, it's well worth it. That's what being a good neighbor is all about.

Nice job backing yourself up, Anon. I'll humor you lest anyone else get confused. When people call you racist, it's not necessarily because of the last thing you said, it's because of a pattern of racist trolling on this blog.

Case in point, your comment at March 12, 2010 9:10 AM (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=1167519580792566980&postID=6370483921113737323) that was deleted by Sloopy and confirmed racist. If you want to refresh your memory, it's quoted in the following response by FGFM.

And let's not forget your manifesto the second to last time Sloopin posted about A Cappella (http://www.sloopin.com/2009/12/mysterious-cappella-storefront.html). Maybe you're behind their troubles... you keep hijacking their potential PR!

Enlighten me as to how a random Anon posting about a mugging is linked back to a racist Anon post earlier? Quick to jump to FGFM's defense, assume his/her intent, and project racism on every Anon.

Mark, here's my logic:

1. We can be pretty sure the anon I cited is the same one who made racist comments in many other posts because they use the same language: e.g. "uptight Caucasian," "don't snitch," and other appropriated slang words.

2. It is not IMHO far fetched that someone who consistently makes off topic racist comments might be the same person who makes other off topic, but not necessarily racist comments, such as the ones in this thread.

Can I know for sure that they are the same person? Of course, not (they're ANONYMOUS!). But it is certainly a pattern, and a pattern that typically includes another anonymous person coming to Anon1's defense using the same backwards rhetoric (e.g. "How in the world could the original anon's post be construed as racist" when no one suggested it).

I'm still waiting for that citation. BTW, there's a new blog in town!

Can someone (besides Black Panther FGFM) tell me how alerting your neighbors about an unsolved, violent attack on the doorstep of the Sloop is racist?

I didn't see anything about the race/creed/sex/shape/size/etc. of the perps in the initial post.

This thread is about a restaurant.

OT comments and the baiting of various fringe elements = tiresome and counter productive.

Want to keep local residents apprised of area criminal activities? Do so in the appropriate forums . . . maybe try starting your own blog.

I'm Caucasian, so I don't think I'm eligible for party membership.

This place is a mob front. Period, end of story.

I am pretty sure there are other blogs that do the muggings. Why not just frequent those?
