Sad to See Howie's Go

The writing is on the wall for Howie's (actually it's on a piece of paper on the front door but same difference). The local, no frills, but solid food and price dinner at 1330 S. Wabash is officially closed.

We mentioned that is was up for sale a couple of months ago, but it doesn't look like they could get a deal done. It's unfortunate because we thought this place filled in a good gap on the South Loop restaurant spectrum: A Low Priced Dinner.

R.I.P. Howie's...you will be missed!

This place was the worst "dinner" food ever. Glad to see it go.

i generally went to howie's for my hungover brunches. great for breakfast burrito and turkey rueben. i really liked that howie himself was often seen working behind the counter. gave the place a nice neighborhoody feel. such is life (all together now) in this economy.

i was craving a porkchop sandwich yesterday and was hoping that howies would fill that craving. i was shocked and disappointed to see it closed forever! my husband and i loved going to howies! it was the only fast food, good food, ma&pa shop here in the south loop. i agree, howie sure made the place feel like a neighborhood.

For some reason Howie had very irregular hours. There were several times during my first few months in the South Loop that I would try to go here and learn that they closed at 4PM. Eventually I stopped going because I could not count on it being open. I would find myself trying to remember what days it was open and for how long.
