1st Business Of 2013: 7-11 at State & 8th Officially Open

Ok.  It may not be the sexiest opening in the neighborhood, but it still puts us in the plus for 2013.  A new 7-11 has officially opened at the Southeast corner of State and 8th (next to Lou Malnati's and below XSport).

The 2013 Business Counter has been updated.

While some of you may yawn at this news, for some of us it means easier access to slurpees...

As an owner/resident at One Place condos, I initially heard rumblings of 7-11's entrance last summer. I am not much more enthused about it now that they've opened than I was back then. Right off the bat, I'm not a fan of the 2 blacked-out windows on the north side of the building or the cheap 70's style faux-wood wallpaper inside. But I'm trying to give it a chance before judging too harshly. Any other thoughts from residents/neighbors?

And Urban Pantry is under construction at the other end of the block. That will make three convenience stores on the same block, and four within a 600-foot radius.

I am super concerned about the new 7-11. I haven't been in yet, but even the littlest things cause me concern...they have used regular Scotch tape to tape signs to the windows. It may look fine now, but imagine what it's going to look like when it gets dusty/dirty and peeled off... I just hope (knocking on wood) that they keep the storefront clean and don't allow loitering or panhandling.

Scotch Tape on the windows?! You don't say! Let's run them out of town!
