Witnessing Interesting Things From a Condo in the Sloop

We recently read a post from the Tribune's Chicago Now blog site and thought it was an interesting. Sometimes you forget you're living in a city and that so many things are going on all at once:

I have been at Roosevelt and Indiana in One Museum Park for over a year now and my appreciation for life in the South Loop continues to grow!

A weekend like this first weekend in August is a perfect example of how exciting it can be here. We have a hundred thousand people per day attending Lollapalooza for the next three days while our First Neighbor to the south, President Obama, shuttles back and forth from Hyde Park up to Lincoln Park for his birthday events.

You would never believe what I see from my perch on the 14th floor of One Museum Park! I watched the preparations for Lollapalooza start from scratch then progress like watching a time-lapse movie, with barricades, fencing, and huge stages appearing as if from nowhere, to the point where all of the stages were up by Thursday afternoon, and the sound checks of all the headlining bands began.

what about the 10+ emergency vehicles that showed up at One Museum Park on Sunday? Anyone have info on this?

So, we live in a great hood because the President passes through on his way to Lincoln Park to celebrate and dine at north side restaurants with north side residents? Huh? I've heard a lot of "rah rah" for the sloop on this blog; however, that takes the cake.

OK the North side has a lot more restaurant I agree but the views I get from my Condo and park/lake access forget the North side. I can take a cab or the El to the North side but I would rather stay in the south loop.

Why do Sloopers constantly justify their decision to live here? So Lady Gaga played a few hours and the president did a fly-by. There's a phrase in sports, "act like you've been there before". Agree with Anon 1.

i agree to anon above: can't beat the views and access to lake/museums! Also, you can't get me out of the Northside fast enough when I am in a car- i just want to pull my hair out driving on the NS. when i get off of LSD and onto Indiana I can finally breathe (and park)!

To those with a positive attitude about their neighborhood who tire of defending it from trolls from outside the neighborhood and those on its fringe, here is another South Loop blog that I happened upon recently: South Loop Connection.

Re: South Loop Connection

Looks like someone opened their media library and clicked "upload all". Blogs should require some level of commentary and topics for discussion IMO.

Did you happen to notice the three carloads of Englewood's youth that sped down Wabash last night, parked illegally in front of the massive empty/abandoned lot just south of 'exposure/utopia', and jaywalked back and forth for the next hour between their cars and Jewel while spewing f-bombs and the n-word for all the people and families sitting on the patios at Zapatista and Giocco to enjoy? Now, THAT was interesting.
