Gerrymandering the Sloop (cont.) - Public Meetings

One of the more interesting things bound to happen in 2012 is the redrawing of the ward maps (see old post here). Well yesterday, we got an email from Alderman Fioretti notifying the public of some upcoming hearings in regard to this topic:
You are hereby notified that the Chicago City Council COMMITTEE ON COMMITTEES, RULES AND ETHICS will meet on the following dates, times and locations in order to hold public hearings with two more dates yet to be determined on the City of Chicago's Redistricting Process:

Wednesday, January 11, 2012
DePaul University
Cortelyou Commons
2324 N. Freemont Street, Chicago
6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Thursday, January 12, 2012
Progressive Baptist Church
3658 S. Wentworth Avenue, Chicago
6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
We won't be able to attend, but if anyone else does, please let us know if you find out anything interesting. Regardless, we will keep our eyes open for pertinent information on this topic.

Public meetings? They held five public meetings before there was any map out there. This is all about protection of the power structure in the city council. Public hearings are a sham.

Update: Bad news for the South Loop. It looks like the city council may have reached an agreement and will be voting soon, with the expectation that a slightly revised version of the black caucus map will pass. For those who don't recall, that map's the one that moves the 2nd ward to the northside and splits the South Loop into 4 wards.
