The Foundry | Printers Row CrossFit Coming to 730 S. Clark

For those of you who like to get your work out on, you're probably happy to hear that a new gym is coming to Printers Row. A reader sent us a link to a Facebook page for to The Foundry | Printers Row CrossFit. The actual website isn't up and running yet, but the Facebook page states:
Our mission is to forge healthy bodies, empower people to achieve sustainable well-being, and promote maximum enjoyment of life.

Sounds good to us. It also looks like they're already making progress on the build-out of the gym:

CrossFit is awesome--a great (and really intense) way to strength train. Can't wait to try this location

Also of note. Kobra Fitness just quietly opened a location at 641ish South Clark (next to Villains).

I don't know anything about CrossFit. What about it isn't healthy?

Agreed--I have never heard that CrossFit wasn't a healthy way to train. Where did you hear this?

CrossFit is awful for you. I forces you to go beyond your plataeu thus putting yourself in harms way

Thanks for the mention Sloopin! We are really looking forward to serving the South Loop. The coaching team has extensive experience with CrossFit, competitive sports, and other training methodologies. We will have a number of opportunities for you to experience our approach free of charge and determine whether it is right for you. Opening is targeted for March 31.

Just like any training routine, you can push yourself like a maniac and hurt yourself, or you can be safe and sane and healthy about it. It also depends on who's running the gym. Any gym that's based on one type of routine can be harmful if the athlete doesn't listen to his or her body, and if the person in charge is negligent. You can hurt yourself doing yoga, swimming, zumba, running, whatever--or not hurt yourself. Same with Crossfit. I did it for awhile at Crossfit 312 (highly recommended), and look forward to trying out this place. Any word on opening date?

CrossFit...highfiver crowd that hangs out at Scout and drinks beer.

Yeah we dont need to fuel those people anymore than we already do in this neighborhood

We need more small cafe's and coffee shops where I can be a reclusive dork and think of new things to complain about

Valerie Bertinelli used to rep CrossFit before she started up with weight watchers. I think she did better with weight watchers but maybe she didn't do CrossFit the right way.

Crossfit is totally scalable for any fitness level so you should not feel intimidated about trying this approach. The key is to listen to your body, but at the same time push and challenge yourself. I have seen some significant changes in my physical conditioning (strength, flexibility, endurance) since trying Crossfit. Give it a try, stick it out, trust me it works.
