What's the Deal with Spanglish?

We haven't heard much about Spanglish since we did a post back in July, but recently two curious readers sent us emails about the subject:

Hi Sloopy!

Wondering if you have heard any recent news about Spanglish? I can't find anything updates online. I passed Frank, the owner, while crossing the street the other day but, unfortunately, did not have the opportunity to ask him about it.

Thanks, and keep up the GREAT work!

S
From what we read back then on Metromix, they were planning a September opening. Looks like that ain't happening. Regardless, hope they open soon.

Anyone have the scoop?

(Hat tip: TR & S!)

I don't know anything about the opening but it seems as though their sign went up around the same time as the Panda Express sign went up. Any news on that?
I don't plan on frequenting Panda Express much but I like the idea of having more commercial space in actual use around here.

I wonder if it's a building thing, because they both seemed to have been stopped at a similar point in progress. Wonder if it has anything to do with the construction on Congress and accessabilty to the building.

This is nothing to do with Spanglish but I did want to put the word out that The Scout has an excellent breakfast...stopped in on Sat at 10:30 am after the 5K and was thrilled with the breakfast offerings...add it to your breakfast/brunch list!

Don't talk Scout around here, they'll cut off you head. Apparently its no more than a hub for satan's army looking to dole out grief and hardship on the entire south loop community by watching sports and "chest bumping"

Anonymous @ 7:59 AM -- Nice job pimping Scout instead of staying on topic.

Why not mention that the breakfast menu is good at one of the south loops premier destinations?

seriously, is there one thread on here where Scout doesn't come up?

"one of the south loop's premier destinations"

HA!

Are we still not convinced that Scout owners/employees are trolling Sloopin?

Remind me again what this has to do with Spanglish?

heres a nice write up on Acadia--wish they had time to get the park completed this past summer so we could experience the whole package this Spring

I'm getting the feeling you work there...
Doesn't change the fact that its a Douche bar.... (coming from a sports fan)

I spend a lot of time in the building these restaurants will be in and from what I can piece together, both are still a go. Panda is more on track with constriction, in fact, we hear them daily. Spanglish is still expected to open, but due to where I usually am in the building, i dont hear them working.

Acadia? Scout? What's the deal with Spanglish?

I don't know if it is related, but we had a similar issue with the Thai place that was supposed to open here. The sign went up and stayed there for months, but didn't change until they started work on Spanglish.

Yup...I worry that Spanglish will be out the same way that "Lek & Lai" was. What is it with this space where retaurants close before they even open?

Anonymous said...

dont worry, spanglish is going to open. I speak to Frank regularly and he tells me things are progressing. Last we spoke he was shooting to open in December.
