How Do You Feel About the "South Loop" Costco Opening?

We've received a bunch of emails and there has been a lot of discussion about the new Costco that just opened at 14th and Ashland.  While we don't consider this to be the Sloop, it's still close enough for many of us to utilize.  A reader writes:
Have you considered an article about how people feel about the "South Loop" Costco? My theory is that those of us who own property will love that its called South Loop Costco until something bad happens. Once someone writes a negative review people will immediately point out that the location is actually University Village. Could be an interesting poll question.
It's interesting.  It seems like a stretch to call this area the South Loop.  Maybe we could call it "Southwest Loop"...that's a joke (a bad one...).  Anyway, what do people think?  Is this reader right?

Since our Sloop house is too small for storing most costco-sized items... we will probably go there for necessities and before throwing parties.

The meat there is questionable as is most of the veggies, and frozen goods.

We will continue to support smaller bakeries for cakes and bread, and binny's for the beer & booze.

I agree with Unknown (get a username damnit): I will go there for necessities mainly. It's nice to have it near, and I, for one, don't think it really matters whether it falls within the South Loop umbrella.

I don't think this person has ever been to Costco, the meats are actually a higer grade than typical supermarket quality. We have also been very happy with the quality and price of fruits and veggies.

Glad this person won't be going, better parking for me

The meat there is fantastic- great prices and good selection. I recommend the pre-packaged chicken breasts, perfect for the freezer. The beer and liquor prices are really good also, although Binny's does have comparable prices. We go every once in awhile to buy those items plus cereal combined with the gas discount makes $50/year for membership worthwhile.

Totally agree with "unknown" - we don't have the space to store costco-sized items.

Honestly, I couldn't care less that it's opening. I doubt we'll shop there.

its great, meats are high quality and the staples like eggs and milk are a good deal.
Although I would love to live next to an awesome market that's a block away and buy everyday in small fresh amounts. The reality is that I don't have the time or a store like that in proximity to me. until that changes, send me the I Love Costco tshirt.

Meat quality is very good. Some people comment without really knowing what they're talking about. I do agree it's wasteful to buy in such bulk since most families in the SLoop are of the 2-3 people variety... the discount on gas alone makes it worth it. I love that it's here.

Also, they stand behind their products. Very reasonable return policy.

I think it is as "south loop" as the Lincoln Park one is "Lincoln Park." I am glad that I can go & get back home in 90 minutes rather than spend half a day schlepping to the north side Costco. I go for the fantastic organic milk. It's the best ever.
