How to Make Motor Row an Instantaneous Destination? Add Three Floyd's Chicago Brew Pub

We've spent many hours pondering what it would take to really jump start development in the Motor Row district (area on Michigan South of Cermak).  Big plans are in place, but to this date nothing is really grabbing attention from a broader city standpoint.

The Green Line stop at Cermak will help and yes, Broad Shoulder Brewery is a nice start, but if Alderman Fioretti and others associated with making this happen truly want to make Motor Row a destination, they should head on over to Munster, Indiana and try to lure the boys at Three Floyds to open a Chicago brew pub in Motor Row (via Chicago Tribune):
The most revelatory news is that owner Nick Floyd is scouting locations to open a Three Floyds brewpub in Chicago. He has been looking at spaces during the last couple of weeks, and though coy about the where ("anywhere but the Loop") and when ("the near future"), he sounded resolute about it happening.
While it seems like a long shot, would it hurt to try?  As the Chicago Tribune article states the guys at Three Floyds can draw 6,000 fanatics to their brewery in Munster...yes Munster!

It would be a "unique" destination that would help put Motor Row on the map.

Just an idea...

That's actually a really good idea. 5 Rabbit is also looking for brewpub space in the city (or, they were a few months ago) and the article I read said they were focusing on the West Loop. A little persuasion might have made a difference...

Seconded. That would be incredible.

It would be a welcome addition.

BTW great move on cutting out all the anon BS sloopy. We all knew it had to happen eventually

Three Floyds would be a great additions and hopefully this area could maybe turn into a little goose island

yes Brendan I agree, its much nicer without the little boys and girls who post drivel using mommy and daddys computer. Guess we know who won that battle...hahahaha. Sweet success

I'm so excited to be living in this area and relishing all the new plans taking place. It feels like a Cinderella story.

Three Floyd's in the sloop would be brilliant. The only downside would be the hit on my wallet and the need to buy bigger pants.

I hadn't even noticed the absence of anonymous. Guess it shows exactly how much they contributed. A welcome change!

Brilliant idea! I am a huge craft beer fan and I thought the exact same thing when I read the article. 3 Floyds isnt just another brewery, it is THE BREWERY! I have a feeling Nick might be looking in UK Village considering he lives there though.

3 Floyds would be great. Binnys is usually out and going over to munster is a bit of a hastle. However its more likely they end up on the northside im guessing.

Let's hope this can be one of those times when wishful thinking turns into a persistent rumor and eventually happens! Something like this would be huge for the neighborhood (well it would help keep me entertained at least). Also, glad to see the end of anon!

i think we all knew that eventually the loser anons would crumble..

Please email New Chicago Beer Company, they are no longer planning a location at Ashland/47 and are seeking for a new location. Along with Broad Shoulders it would bring more promotion to the breweries themselves if we were able to create a "destination" for Craft Beer afficianados. In regards to OpenID.. I welcome it..like anything, there are always ways around it and will not fully deter Anons, but this will help.

Sloopers:

Jeremiah from South Loop Brewing Company here to vouch for how wonderful this idea is, albeit with the caveat that we shouldn't stop at just Motor Row. Between SLBC (we're looking to launch our Kickstarter soon), Broad Shoulders and my constant nudging of New Chicago that the Sloop is where it's at, the vision is that the South Loop becomes Chicago's craft beer destination. If Fioretti was willing and interested in doing such a thing as reaching out to 3 Floyd's, it certainly couldn't hurt. Although, Nick Floyd certainly has been on an active hunt throughout the city. Not sure whether he's considered the Sloop yet or where he's at in the process.

Looking forward to serving you all a brew-ha-ha in the near future!

Cheers,

Jeremiah

The sales manager at 3 Floyds told me that the Sloop is not under consideration due to its relative proximity to their Munster IN brewpub.

Motor Row updates: 1. Joyce Ford closed! That is a huge building along with a parking lot ready to be developed. 2. The recording studio - Pressure Point at 2239 S. Michigan are close to opening a high-end bar/live music venue on the 1st floor called RIFF. 3. Also, a small Mexican/American restaurant opening shortly at 2333 S. Michigan.
