Meeting on Changes to the Vietnam Veterans Musuem

For those of you who are interested, Alderman Fioretti recently announced a community meeting discussing some of the changes to the Vietnam Veterans Museum (18th and Indiana):

Alderman Robert Fioretti and the Chicago Park District
invite you to attend a public meeting on June 2 to
discuss the future of Park 550 (Vietnam Veterans
Museum) located at 1801 S. Indiana.

A previous public meeting occurred on December 15,
2008 where programming input was obtained from the
community. The June 2 meeting will display the
drawings developed by the Chicago Park District.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 2 at 6:30
pm at Park 550 (Vietnam Veterans Museum) located at
1801 S. Indiana.

does the chicago park district actually own this building?

Yes - May 1st. The Women's park next door won't be transferred to Park District until later this year or 2010. NVM Arts organization to lease space on 3rd floor for 2-3 years. Work on 1st floor starts today and scheduled to be completed by January 1. 2nd and 3rd floor spaces will be phased in during next 2-3 years.

1st floor will have toddler play area, two flexible use rooms for meetings, crafts, arts, community space. 2nd Floor will have flexible dance, fitness, art rooms. Courtyard improvements won't happen until next year.
