Rumors Around the Sloop: Retail Edition

It's been awhile since we had a post dedicated to rumors we've heard (or read on our comment threads), so here we go:

Owner of Artists Cafe Behind the Restaurant Coming to 1150 S. Wabash?
Last we heard Five Guys was going to move into the 1150 S. Wabash construction place (picture above), but we recently heard that the owner of the Artists Cafe at 412 S. Michigan will be bringing a new diner to the Sloop. While we haven't heard much about the concept, it seems like whatever he decides to bring would be a welcome addition. Stay tuned...

Station Stop Pub and Eatery Coming to Corner Vacant Retail Space at 1400 S. Michigan?
This was based on a comment from a post we did last week. The comment specifically said that there were signs on the door, but upon further investigation, we could not find any. However, there appears to be some action in this space as black tarps have now covered up the windows preventing people from looking in.

Management of Waffles Looking into a New Restaurant Concept?
Another comment from a post we did last week, but still juicy and worth calling out. According to the comment the Waffles Management team is looking into nearby space for a wine and cheese, small plate style restaurant. This might be talk, but could be interesting if they get some momentum.

  1. Not so sure about these rumors, but I will say that the "new Italian restaurant" that opened in the Grace O'Malley's space earlier this year is delish!

  2. I was told by an Ulta employee at another store last week that they are definately opening a store in the Roosevelt Collection but may be waiting till other retail spots sign on. Great news!

  4. Any more news on retail or restaurants at Roosevelt Collection? I'm really loving hearing that finally there is some retail and restaurant activity in our 'hood.

One question on 1400 S. Michigan, I saw a stop work notice on the building on Friday, has it been removed so they can continue working?

  6. Pretty sure there is going to be a Jamba Juice near Roosevelt/Michigan opening 1Q next year. That might be the space next to Marble Slab...not sure though.

I believe this is called leasing momentum. Thanks Trader Joe's!

  8. About the Roosevelt Collection retail: There's some recent info from the new owners, McCaffrey Interests, on the RC blog:

"In the meantime, I can share with you that we have settled upon a grand opening date of the retail space of October 18th, 2012. That is a very aggressive timeframe. I hope you can all bear with us."

  10. Doctor's Choice Home Medical Equipment is closing, they have closeout sale signage up on the windows. They are at 1400 Museum Park, same building as the rumored Alain's (Entourage Man).

  11. The spot rumored to be 5 guys then perhaps the a place from the owners of the Artists cafe may just have shown their hand. On the outside of the facade on the building just North of Bongo Room reads "George & Angela Mitchell Building"...They were the owners of the Artist's Cafe. Hmmmm!

  12. I know the 1150/1146 S. Wabash space was rumored to be a cafe by the Artists Cafe owners... however, there was a building permit that showed up on Everyblock today (http://chicago.everyblock.com/building-permits/apr03-permit-issued-renovation-alteration-4857816). When you look up the building permit on the city website, the applicant is the director of construction for Five Guys. So... maybe two restaurants going into that new building, or who knows???

  15. 99 comments out of a hundred that come from anons are absolute BS. This was that 1 comment that wasn't

Congrats on your Five Guys scoop, loser.

  16. So much for the opinion that only anons make worthless comments.

"Congrats on your Five Guys scoop, loser."
