Woman Sexually Assaulted and Husband Robbed

Be careful out there (via CBS2 Chicago):
Residents in the South Loop are being urged to be vigilant–after an armed man sexually assaulted a woman.
The attack happened near 14th Street and Clark when a man assaulted the 56-year-old woman in her car outside her apartment.
He then took her keys and went inside her home and robbed her husband.

  1. Dearborn Park 1 & II have a serious crime problem. Until they gate off the front entrance they will continue to have things like this happen.

Its wierd too---its an affluent area with parks and schools. You would think they would stop being cheap and pay for a security service in there. Remember the "white van" robberies last year? Will they never learn or are they just too stubborn ....good Lord.

  2. I live on cottentail park off of state st on the east side and saw the cop cars so i walked my dogs over to see what was the matter.

The police were shocked at how dimly lit the area is back by all the homes and that fact that there wasnt any 24 hour security made them just shake their head in disbelief. I love the area but Chicago is a dangerous city all over now and you need to take measures.

  3. Yes, gate off Dearborn Park I and II even more! Better yet, ship it off to the suburbs.

I feel bad for people like you....using this crime as a platform to voice your maniacal opinion about DP1 and 2

  5. I don't know the full details of the assault, but if Dearborn Park I & II had thru-streets, pedestrians' & locals' safety would be greatly enhanced. More eyes on the street are more eyes on the street, even if it's in the form of a passing car.

  6. Where are your statistics to prove Dearborn Park 1 & 2 have a "serious crime problem"? There is no need to gate them off, nor is there a need to waste money on security in Dearborn Park 2. Are there stats regarding the effectiveness of the hired security in DP1? Mostly I just see them driving around, wasting gas, causing pollution.

  7. causing pollution? WOW ok so i'm obviously dealing with a dummy

Not everything has statistics...this isnt ESPN. I live there, not you, so I know about the NUMEROUS car thefts/breakins, the loitering problem in both parks, and now there have been reports of breakins and even sexual assult?! DP 1 from what alot of neighbors have told me is much safer now with very little if any crime being reported since security was employed. The whole"driving around" thing---yeah that actually works to deter criminals from hanging around.

Crime is everywhere in chicago believe me I get that. But if in the last couple years you see a cluster of events in the same area over and over then you have to react to that.

  8. 10:08 here. Um, I do live in Dearborn Park 2. Thanks for your civility. I see it's impossible to have an intelligent discussion here.

  9. i highly doubt you live in DP2, there isnt one person from this area that wouldnt want to "waste money and gas on security" as you so eloquently put it. You're obviously just a DP1 and DP2 hater popping off on a blog. Sorry to waste anyones time with this retort but I felt it needed to be said, there are just some real doozies out there.

  10. A mother of two was raped in her driveway and then the family robbed while the children hid in the bathroom......

If any sleezebag feels the need to use this as a launching pad to voice their opinion about the walls around dearborn park please do the world a favor and play in traffic because you are a lowly soul

  11. Sexual assault doesn't mean it was rape.

  12. My question is this: How is there no description of the offender?

  13. Also, what was the police K9 unit looking for in Cotton Tail Park?

  14. @ Sexual assault doesn't mean it was rape.

Just because it wasn't rape, doesn't mean it's no big deal. It's still a crime and causes just as much trauma.

  15. YIKES

"sexual assult doesnt mean its rape"

thats something the attacker would say. Youre a creep

  16. Even when there is 24 hour security, the area is so expanse there is no way they could actually cover the entire area. Also, isn't SOuth Loop Elementary in Dearborn Park II. The Public has to have access to the area, a Public School is there. The City is full of criminals, and they are going to take over the city. I feel like no where in the city is it safe.

  17. Yes, I'm a creep. I'm also a 37 year old female, and I'm the one who said "Sexual assault doesn't mean it was rape." Just trying to put it in perspective. The media like this blog can blow things out of proportion. I'm not saying it wasn't a crime and wasn't traumatic and wasn't awful, but rape and your butt being grabbed are vastly different things, but yet both are labeled as "sexual assault".

    1. Actually the city defines sexual assault as rape in crime reports.

  18. anon at 403...

it would help alot if there was security. Just because you cannot guarantee 100% no foul play doesnt mean you shouldnt try to cut the crime rate down as best you can. For gods sake there are children all over this area......do you want to be the one to tell them "eh forget security it wont help at all"

Thats an irresponcible and sloth ridden answer. Im sure if this happened to your family you wouldnt be so cavalier

  19. This is what I found online from one news source-

Her alleged attacker is described by police as black, 30 to 40 years old, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-10 and weighing about 175 pounds. He was reportedly wearing a dark knit ski cap with a red band around the edge along with a dark jacket or sweater, police said.

  20. ABC 7 news provides more information not present in this thread. Apparently there was a witness who saw it happen and didn't think anything of it- just thought they were talking in the car in an "awkward" way - read on

  21. This is the issue liberals miss with guns and gun controls.
If criminals don't care about committing crimes like rape, robbery and murder, why do liberals think they will care about violating a "gun control" law.
More people would be able to meaningfully defend themselves if purchasing and owning a firearm in Chicago was easier. This would result in a higher chance of a criminal encountering an armed (potential) victim. Ideally the armed (potential) victim could then rid us of the criminals.
It's not a perfect solution by far but it is better than what currently exists in Chicago.

  22. The news just reported the woman was raped. This is not the forum to comment on anything. Something horrible happened to our neighbors. Close the thread. The last thing anybody needs to read is the self righteous and self serving bs on this thread.

  23. news reported rape....confirmed

So CREEP, you can rest assured you were wrong
