Toppers Pizza Opens on South State

This is slight old news, but for the pizza/breadsticks lovers Toppers Pizza (2 east eighth street) is now open on South State street.  They opened on November 7th.  Has anyone tried anything from here?

...and our business counter is updated to reflect this.

Are there any other business openings/closings we've missed this year?  It's getting down to the end of the year and want to try to capture the retail environment as best as we can.

  1. Tried it. Loved it. Their MyZa's are the perfect size, and reasonably priced.

  2. off topic, you can update the counter regarding this place:

    • Mexican American Grill (2333 S. Michigan)

has been open now for a few weeks. Its called: Cali's Mexican and American Grill. They are offering $1 steak tacos for the month of November. I tried to go the week they opened but was discouraged from people eating there saying they were waiting too long for food. I cut them some slack since it was their first few days open. I returned a week later and ordered 5 steak tacos. The tacos were ok, not better than Carbon, but not the worst taco I've ever eaten. The only thing that did bother me was the smell of the place.

  3. I've ordered delivery from there twice. Super-fast delivery, pretty good quality pizza (comparable to Sarpinos, maybe a little higher quality) and the sticks are indeed quite good (berrystix are a nice dessert).

The delivery people are also very prepared and friendly, confirming your order and offering you plates, napkins, pepper, and parmesan.

If you're ordering online, check the "store offers" page for some good deals.

I was a little skeptical about a pizza joint aimed at the same market as Pauly's opening two doors down, but it's MUCH better than Pauly's.

  4. I've ordered twice from toppers for delivery! Cheesy breadsticks are extra cheesy, personal sized pizzas are huge, good topping combos, and super fast delivery. You can actually tell that the dough is freshly made too! Great addition to the sloop!

  5. FRANK! Make your own post about the Cali's. Why is it so hard for people to understand how blogs work. Ahhhh..... Oh well, actually I find the hilariously inappropriate posts hilarious. Anyway, Toppers is good, I hope they last. We need to start rooting for businesses in the Sloop, and not looking for any random reason to trash them. Go Toppers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Anonymous: Did you get cheese pizza, too? When we ordered it a few weeks ago it tasted like it had cinnamon in it. The pineapple pizza did not taste cinnamon-y. The cheesy breadsticks were among the best we've had delivered.

  7. I'd be interested in trying this place, but their delivery area is small.

  8. instead of sitting on your duff typing about extra cheesy cheese bread and big pizzas perhaps you should look into joining a gym and cutting back on the carbs.

  10. They were passing out boxes of free breadsticks (a whole order!) on the sidewalk on Saturday, November 3rd. Very friendly employees and the food was good. They gave us the cheese and bacon breadsticks.

I do know how blogs work unfortunately you don't. How do you expect me to make my own post on this blog if its NOT my blog. Maybe you shouldn't post stuff when you're drunk.

  13. Being from Wisconsin, I'm a huge fan of Toppers. I was disappointed to see that they wouldn't deliver to my area (18th St) when ordering from their website, but when I called in to order, they were more than happy to deliver in less than 30 mins!

  14. Thanks Anon! I'm down at 18th too, so I just made the assumption they wouldn't delivery based on the web site. I'll be checking them out now!
