Cali's Mexican American Grill Opens in Motor Row

A reader writes about a recent addition to Motor Row -- Cali's Mexican and American Grill (2333 S. Michigan Ave.):
Just wanted to give you and other readers a heads up that a restaurant that you reported on a couple months ago has opened in Motor Row. I know that its not technically a South Loop location but it isn’t far either and their tacos are spot on plus the price is right!! I took some pictures on a visit there the other night and thought I would submit them to you. While we dined in a couple people stopped to place carry out orders but I’d really like to give this place some business and keep something authentic open in Motor Row with the hopes that new places will take to the idea!
Looking forward to trying some delicious tacos!

  1. TIPS: They are BYOB. Also, they are a casual order-at-the-counter type restaurant, so don't expect LaCantina, Zapatista. They had a $1steak taco deal for November, not sure if they have anything for December. We have ordered steak and chicken tacos with avocados and they were very good with their homemade sauce. Family friendly folks work there. I hope they invest some money in new seating, paint, lighting, pictures, but many neighborhoods have these types of restaurants and glad they are here. They are open for breakfast as well.

  4. This is just what the neighborhood needs, cheap Mexican. I love all the taquerias on the north side. Very happy that we have one now too. Will check it out this weekend!

  5. ENJOY YOUR FATNESS---

Remember to watch your portions, this is a time for gaining weight i.e. thanksgiving and xmas. Lay off the tacos and stick with soups and sushi

  8. Food good for being cheap. Service terrible, it wasnt even busy and waited literally a half hour for 3 tacos. It was so ridiculous after 20 min of waiting even the girl said there is still a 15 taco order ahead of you, do you want to wait..as she was laughing about it. Really you cant handle one 15 taco order? And its a taco place. Not important to me but the interior is terrible. Looks like they took some old stuff from a garage and threw it in there. You walk in confused and wonder where the menu is. They have a tiny pamphlet menu taped to the glass under the counter, good luck squinting. I dont think this place could have been put together any worse and the service was horrible even considering its a cheap taco place. Once again the food was good though. Cant imagine it would have been hard or expensive to copycat a place like la pasadita.

  9. "FitGuy" - Are you serious? Soups and sushi (excluding sashimi) are loaded with carbs, sodium, and are high in cholesterol.

I can make decisions for myself, thanks!

  10. I'll check it out! Get in get out is fine by me! Who needs menu to order tacos???

FitGuy - those of us who are actually fit, can still go and enjoy some tacos and get away with it. You sir, on the other hand, most likely crushed your 7th scale, cry yourself to sleep and secretly admire real fit guys.

  12. Every time I see a comment from FitGuy I can't help but think of White Goodman (Ben Stiller) from the movie DodgeBall

  13. love that movie!

Seriously though, I know some pretty fit people and they arent blogging about taco stands so dont give me they "oh im fit but i like to eat tacos once in a while" bs.

You are either healthy and fit----or you eat at southside taco joints.

    I win
