The Scout Shooting to Open First Week of August

We've been getting a ton of inquiries about when The Scout (1301 S. Wabash) is going to open and yesterday a commenter noticed that the RedEye said it was going to open on Monday, August 1st.

After talking to a source, it sounds like they won't be open on that Monday but are shooting to open on Tuesday, August 2nd. That is if everything goes according to plan.

Metromix (who is owned by Tribune, who also owns RedEye) seems to have a more accurate account on the opening of the Scout. On their website it says early August as well.

So it sounds like it will be soon...and judging by all the people we see peeking inside it seems like everyone is excited to see this place open.

  1. Hopefully this place will open soon and be a good addition to the neighborhood. I was also excited for Donna's to open. That place is a complete disaster. So good luck to the Scout and also looking forward to Waffles coming. Good businesses help our neighborhood really develop and grow and bad businesses only get in the way.

  2. Donna's cafe has some imperfections so sort through but its still in a good foot traffic area and has lots of potential..

Donna-- Your hard boiled eggs and fruit cups were partly frozen...big turn off. Coffee is also watery. People like robust coffee..keep that in mind

Also, try some whole grain breakfast sandwiches...something "on the go". Have fresh juice, coffee, and you'll be fine. Keep the place clean and the coffee hot.

  3. I for one would prefer that businesses that don't know what they are doing leave so better businesses can take their place. No offense, but the last thing I think we should do is try to coach a failing restaurant in a prime location if something else can take its place. Case in point, why don't we deserve good new businesses like Flo and Santos, Panazzos, and Pita Heaven....

Hope that Scout can join that company if not let's let capitalism figure it all out and businesses can go under and new and better ones can take their place. I don't believe in restaurants being supported if they are not worth supporting.

  4. The Scout will be THE TEST for other developers in terms of SL's appetite for late night, "young & older" crowd, dancing or just hanging out etc... We've been asking for something like this..now come out on Friday and Saturday nights. This place should be busy, but make this THE late night spot. Bravos knows this already, but this is a PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT. Get the Printers Row folks out past State & 8th, Get South Michigan/Motor Row folks down to party (their ready), get Prairie Dist folks out for a bite and the college crowd ID's!

  10. I can't believe that none of you has mentioned how Scout has ruined the incredible 1938 Universal Film Exchange building by removing the curving glass block. I suppose things like architectural history don't matter to people who get excited about yet another loud friggin' sports bar.

  12. Yeah, I mourned, but most people don't give a fig. Not many architecture fans commenting on this blog.
