A Real Estate Video From the Past - Eco18

UPDATE: So this video is from 2008 (as JeffS pointed out in the comments), but showed up on a recent rss feed that we monitor. Obviously things have changed in the area and we don't anticipate Eco18 breaking ground in the summer. Regardless, it's interesting to listen to...

We were excited to listen to this interview conducted by YoChicago about the Eco18 development at the corner of Wabash and 18th (1830 S. Michigan). It's interesting to hear the developer talk about the South Loop, the "Wabash Corridor" and the real estate market in general.

The other interesting note was that he mentioned that they planned to break ground on the development this Summer. To be honest, we thought this project was dead. Regardless, it's encouraging to hear optimism in regard to the South Loop real estate market (even though it wasn't resounding excitement):

  1. Ugh. No more new buildings! There are enough empty ones already. I thought this building didn't have enough presales to secure financing to start building. I can't imagine they'd have enough now.

Also it appears that video is from 2 years ago. I don't think he'd be as optimistic now.

  2. If you follow the click-through to that youtube video you'll see that the posting date was Feb 2008. so that video is over 2 years old. Probably safe to say the Eco18 property will stay as green as it has been: a nice empty lot.

  3. I'd say historically, developers are full of shit. When we were looking into moving to the sloop last year the people at Terazzio told me we could move in LAST August or September. I believe they just started closing on the condos in that building.

  5. I always wonder where schmucks like this live. Wanna bet it's not in a new condo unit with leaky windows, etc.?

In a perfect world, this guy sleeps in his car under a viaduct.

  6. A few days ago a new reality sign popped up on this property advertising a 'Vacant Lot 53000+ square feet, zoned DX-5 Commercial. Looks like Eco18 is officially dead (at least at that location).
