Adios to Cuatro

We received some unfortunate news from a reader yesterday:

With sadness, the time has arrived... Cuatro will become a fond
memory (barring intervention of the miraculous kind!). We will be serving
out last dinner on Saturday, April 10, 2010.

The Cuatro Family & Staff thank each and every patron of past &
present. Our shared experiences will never be forgotten. Cuatro was
born with a dream. A dream realized. A dream brought to life by
YOU.

Again, THANK YOU so very much. Please come by to enjoy the many
favorites developed over the last 4 1/2 years. We look forward to serving
you one last time over the next week.

Cuatro Family & Staff

P.S. Yes, we are still BYOB.

Sad to see them go...

  1. That really sucks! This was a quality restaurant.

  2. NOOOO, I am a regular there. One of my favorite restaurants in Chicago.

  3. Poor location really did this place in - same as Room 21. The owners were banking on that part of the Sloop gentrifying more quickly; unfortunately, with Ickes, Hilliard, and Valarie Jarrett's housing projects all just a stones throw away from that locale, it's not at all desireable.

Too bad Cuarto can't switch locations with uptopia/exoosure/now open.

    Cuatro next to Zapatista?

  7. Totally different food. What's wrong with the idea? I think they'd put the other Wabash restaurants to shame.

  8. Can someone find out what happened with Cuatro? This location and restaurant is in fact desirable despite what one reader said and I hope someone stepped/steps in to buy it. For god sakes, Reggies is on State right behind it and has flourished. Many other restaurants in more desirable locations closed it's doors in 2009/early 2010 as well. Room21 was busy, the food was not good & too expensive. Not sure what happened with Cuatro..license issue ? Did they sell it ?

  9. Reggie's is not a "restaurant" and it caters to a completely different type of customer than a semi-high end place like cuatro. Young adults following a rock band or sports fans in the hood for a game will always flock to Reggie's, despite the location. Fine dining, such as Room 21 and Cuarto, cannot flourish as a lone establishment in the shadows of housing projects.

  10. I would love for Cuatro to move into the space occupied by exposure/utopia/grand opening.

I'd love for ANYTHING viable to move into exposure/utopia/grand opening.

OK, so don't open a clip joint next to the projects. Doesn't seem like rocket science to me!

  12. Went to dinner at Cuatro last night. It was as good as it always is. Our waiter said there was an 80 percent chance they would be closing Saturday, so it doesn't look good. He didn't say specifically why, but said the owners were looking into some options. Place was definitely busy last night; all the tables were full.

  13. I'm sad to see it go, even though admittedly I have only been there once in about 18 months. It seemd a little pricey for me, but I loved the look of the place. The more restaurants in the SLoop, the better.

  14. I'm curious for those that think location for a higher end restaurant such as Cuatro is what did it in, if the same fate is likely for South Coast Sushi which is only 2 blocks away and appears to not be very busy, but is in a more populated area? Granted I believe they have a second location to the north to help balance the books, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're struggling.

  15. Took a pic today and saw a decidedly Anglo person running in there.

  16. What the hell is that suppossed to mean? Sloopin - please block FGFM from this site. Who cares about punctuation/spelling (on a blog site) and taking everything as a racist comment? Can we have a posting to vote her off? Why are you wasting peoples time as you do on other blog sites as well ?

  17. Was the picture too dark or something?

  18. I heard they lost their liquor license. Seems on the weekend they were having DJ's and running it like a lounge/nightclub. Their license was for restaurant, city caught wind and took away their liquor license. Saw that it was BYOB this last weekend for their closing.
