Most people are excited that the South Loop now has an 'upscale' movie theater, but according to an article we read today it's not the only thing in the neighborhood that caters to an 'upscale' market:Local strip club aficionado Mr. Goodtimes, who asked we use his internet handle because he works in social services, pointed to Atlantis and clubs such as The Pink Monkey in Chicago's South Loop as proof the customer-service trend has come to Chicagoland. Mr. Goodtimes runs the web site Chicagostripclublist.com
That's right, our local strip club, the Pink Monkey (750 Clinton Ave.) has good customer service (as compared to other strip clubs we would assume). Another interesting fact that we read was that it's a BYOB (bring your own booze) establishment. That is highly unusual for a strip club.
We haven't been to the place, but have heard mixed reviews. The cover always seemed steep ($30), but I guess the BYOB thing could save you some money.

I believe strip clubs with full nudity in Chicago (and possibly county and/or state- can anyone confirm?) are not eligible for liquor licenses, so they are BYOB by necessity. I doubt the BYOB would save one money over a club without full nudity like Heavenly Bodies, because those clubs often have have cheaper cover and very inexpensive drinks (and sometimes free food). I haven't been there though, so I suppose the experience could make up for the extra cost.
ReplyDeleteErr, to correct myself, it appears that the Pink Monkey does not have full nudity, so I guess they are BYOB by choice. The liquor license rule is why Admiral is BYOB, but apparently that is not the case for Pink Monkey.

The BYBO definitely does not save you money. We had a party bus drop us off here for one of my friend's bachelor parties. Despite the large group, we received no discounts. In addition to the $30 cover, I was charged $4 for each glass of ice I requested for my Ketel One, a freakin glass of ice!!!

ReplyDeleteI've lived in the South Loop for almost 4 years and have never considered stopping by this place. I don't go to a strip club for the food, comfy couches, or chic decor. Like most, I'm going for the girls and to get the most "bang" for my buck! To do so, I feel that you need to cross state lines and head into Indiana.

Strip clubs in Chicago?? I remember reading about the south loop area in the early 1900's. There were dozens of them...
ReplyDeleteI am a believer that strippers are people too, but with wonderful bodies. Watching a gorgeous woman strip on stage is a beautiful thing. I look forward to visiting this establishment with a bottle of whiskey in one hand and a stack of dollar bills in the other.
I think the last of the old-time State Street burlesque houses, located on the current site of the Harold Washington library, burned down in the mid-70's. It was having a bit of a revival from what I can tell from hippie types renting it out for functions.
