Wabash Avenue Construction Almost Done and it Looks Good
Last we read (back in March), the construction on Wabash Avenue (from Harrison to Roosevelt) was slated to be complete in the fall of 2009. So it's fall and it looks like the city did a solid job.
Although, it doesn't look like all the construction is completely done you can get a sense of the improvements. The main thing we noticed was that the sidewalks look wider. They also have added trees and fencing.
I bet Bongo Room is happy. Too bad that their windows are now full of gang tagging (maybe the city can use some of Lance's tax money to clean up the mess).
Unfortunately, now that all the construction is done and the scaffolding and equipment have been removed, it reminds me of what a dump that block actually is. The building just south of Bongo Room looks like something out of a war zone. It will only get worse the longer that the old Sam's stays abandoned and vacant.

I agree. What a difference! Hopefully some new retail will be enticed in.
I wish Roosevelt between Canal and Clark had sidewalks that big and nice looking.

7 years ago, the building Bongo Room is in was a bum-infested flophouse . . . things are coming around just fine.
Now it's a gang-tagged, graffitti-filled flophouse steps from one of the dumpiest L stops in the city.
